Busy Lives, Faithful Hearts: Ensuring God Remains in Your Marriage

I often find myself juggling more responsibilities than I thought possible. In the midst of all this, it’s easy to let our marriage take a back seat. However, my husband and I have found that keeping God at the center of our relationship is essential for maintaining our bond and ensuring our busy lives don’t drive us apart. Here’s how we do it.

Start with Prayer

One of the most powerful ways we ensure God remains at the center of our marriage is through prayer. We begin and end each day with a moment of prayer together. It might be a simple morning blessing before the kids wake up or a more extended prayer session after everyone is asleep. This daily practice helps us stay connected to each other and to God, providing a foundation of faith that supports us through the day’s challenges.

Make Time for Worship

No matter how busy we get, we prioritize attending church together as a family. Sunday services are non-negotiable in our household. Worshipping together not only strengthens our faith but also provides a sense of community and shared purpose. It’s a reminder that we’re part of something larger than ourselves and that our marriage is a reflection of God’s love.

Incorporate Faith into Daily Activities

Finding moments to incorporate faith into our daily lives is crucial. This could be as simple as listening to Christian music during our morning commute, sharing a Bible verse over breakfast, or discussing the sermon we heard on Sunday during dinner. These small actions keep us mindful of God’s presence and remind us to live out our faith in everything we do.

Date Nights with a Spiritual Twist

Date nights are essential for any marriage, but we try to add a spiritual twist to ours. Sometimes, this means attending a couples’ Bible study or a faith-based marriage workshop. Other times, it’s as simple as spending an evening at home discussing a faith-centered book or watching a Christian movie. These activities not only bring us closer together but also deepen our spiritual connection.

Support Each Other’s Spiritual Growth

Supporting each other’s individual spiritual growth is just as important as growing together. We encourage each other to pursue personal devotional time, whether it’s reading the Bible, journaling, or engaging in a personal prayer routine. By nurturing our individual relationships with God, we bring more strength and wisdom into our marriage.

Lean on Community

Being a military family often means frequent moves and adjusting to new environments. This can be challenging, but we’ve found strength in connecting with local church communities wherever we go. These communities provide support, friendship, and accountability, helping us stay grounded in our faith despite the constant changes in our lives.

Practice Gratitude Together

In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy to focus on what’s going wrong. We counter this by practicing gratitude together. Each evening, we share something we’re thankful for, no matter how small. This practice shifts our focus from our stresses to our blessings, reminding us of God’s goodness and provision.

Serve Together

Finally, we make an effort to serve others together as a family. Whether it’s volunteering at a local food bank, participating in a church outreach program, or simply helping a neighbor in need, serving others helps us live out our faith in practical ways and strengthens our bond as a couple and a family.

Balancing a busy life with a Christ-centered marriage isn’t always easy, but it’s definitely worth the effort. By keeping God at the forefront of our relationship, we’ve found a source of strength, love, and unity that helps us navigate the complexities of life together.
